We are pleased to announce that the student-run annual Boston University Conference of Language Development (BUCLD) will be held on November 2-5, 2023.
Keynote Speaker - Dr. Catherine Tamis-LeMonda<https://steinhardt.nyu.edu/people/catherine-tamis-lemonda> (New York University - Department of Applied Psychology)
Plenary Speaker - Dr. Kamil Deen<http://www2.hawaii.edu/~kamil/> (University of Hawai`i at Manoa - Department of Linguistics)
Student Workshop - Dr Adriana Weisleder<https://communication.northwestern.edu/faculty/adriana-weisleder.html> (Northwestern University - School of Communication)
We would like to thank the 250+ community members (both those who attended BUCLD 47 and those who did not) who filled out our survey about the conference format. Overwhelmingly, respondents asked for an in-person or hybrid conference. In response to this feedback, we are pleased to announce that BUCLD 48 will take place in person, with options for remote participation.
The current plan (subject to change) is as follows:
—All invited presentations (keynote, plenary, workshop and symposium) will be presented in person and live-streamed for remote participants. Questions will be taken from both the live and remote audience.
—The majority of presentations and posters will be in-person. We hope to record the presentations and upload them for later viewing.
—A limited number of submissions will be accepted for remote presentation. Presentations accepted in this format will be pre-recorded; posters will be part of a virtual poster session.
We will be accepting two kinds of submissions: Symposium proposals (due April 1; see below) and abstracts for 20-minute talks or posters (due June 1)

Call for Symposium Proposals:
We are currently soliciting 1000-word proposals for 90-minute symposia for the Boston University Conference on Language Development on any topic likely to be of broad interest to the conference attendees. Proposals should include a list of the participants, topics, and format, and should name at least one organizer. Send submissions to langconf(a)bu.edu with “Symposium proposal” in the subject line.
DEADLINE: All symposium proposal submissions must be received by April 1, 2023. Decisions on symposia will be made by June.
Call for Abstracts:
Submissions of 500-word for 20-minute talks and posters will open April 1, 2023 at https://www.bu.edu/bucld/abstracts/abstract-submission/.
DEADLINE: Thursday June 1, 2023 at 23:59 Eastern Daylight Time (UTC-4)
Submissions that present research on any topic in the fields of first, second, and additional language acquisition from any theoretical perspectives will be fully considered.
Abstracts must be limited to 500 words, with up to one extra page for examples, figures, tables, and references (for a total length of two pages). A suggested format and style for abstracts is available at: http://www.bu.edu/bucld/abstracts/abstract-format/
