Hello BUCLD Community!
With BUCLD 44 only a month and a half away, the BUCLD Organizational Committee would like to reach out regarding a few new opportunities related to BUCLD this year.
First, we would like to note that several new hotels have set aside blocks of rooms this year for BUCLD attendees to reserve at a discounted rate. The full list of hotels that are providing discounts is available at http://www.bu.edu/bucld/travel-hotel/. Reserve your discounted rooms soon, as many of these discounted rates must be reserved before the end of this month!
Secondly, we are excited to announce that this year BUCLD will be hosting a Pop-Up Mentoring Program (PUMP)! PUMP is launched by a subset of the LSA's Committee on the Status of Women in Linguistics (COSWL), that travels around from conference to conference, giving anyone who is interested a chance to have a brief meeting with a mentor outside of their official support system. Mentors and mentees are paired by a COSWL-designated PUMP coordinator based on shared interests for a one-time, no strings attached mentoring session.
Why participate in Pop-up Mentoring?
Mentees report that it has been extremely valuable to meet someone outside of their department to whom they can pose questions they feel they cannot discuss with their official mentors.
Mentors report how enriching it has been to learn a broader context in which to examine the field and their own official mentees’ experiences.
For more information on Pop-up Mentoring see https://www.bu.edu/bucld/conference-info/pop-up-mentoring-program/.
If you have any questions about the upcoming event, please feel free to reach out to us at langconf(a)bu.edu<mailto:langconf@bu.edu>. We look forward to seeing you in November!
