Hello again BULA members! We have a slew of cool events coming up this November.
The first is a film screening sponsored by the American and New English Stud
ies Program TODAY Monday Nov 7th at 6:30 pm in CAS 313. The movie is called "We Still Live Here, Âs Nutayuneân" and tells
a remarkable story of cultural revival by the Wampanoag Indians of
Southeastern Massachusetts. Their ancestors ensured the survival of the
first English settlers in America, the 'Pilgrims,' and lived to regret
it. Spurred on by their intrepid linguist Jessie Little Doe Baird, they
are now saying loud and clear, and in their Native tongue, "Âs
Nutayuneân," - "We Still Live Here." Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/user/MakepeaceProductions.
Our next discussion group will be this Thursday Nov 10th at 7pm in CAS114b. We will be discussing language and the brain with the hope that we will be able to get together with the Mind and Brain Society for a joint discussion some time in the near future! We also encourage anyone who went to BUCLD this weekend to tell us about any interesting talks on language acquisition they may have seen.
Our much anticipated Bananagrams/Scrabble Tournament is being held on
Wednesday Nov 16th at 7pm in the GSU Academy Room.
This will be a fun way to meet other members and show off your word
game abilities. Please bring any Bananagrams or Scrabble sets you own
so we can have multiple games going at once. RSVP at the
Facebook event:
